Desperately needed gas for the generator and moto, so today's destination would be another nearby OHV area called Lark Canyon. It was a tossup between Lark and Corrall for initially choosing a long-term campsite. Today I'd check out the riding and campsite to see if a move was warranted.
The drive in was about four miles from the highway, the last 2 being a decent gravel road. However, there were construction vehicles everywhere on the gravel road. Not doing road work, but stringing up a new power. I snapped a couple pictures of choppers in action carrying the long, heavy cables.
There were other choppers hauling equipment and tower sections. It was interesting to see several towers under various stages of completion.
Sadly, this was the highlight of the day. The riding was good, but a bit hollow. The terrain was typical desert - sandy trails and low-lying scrub brush. There seemed to be trails everywhere, but they didn't really go anywhere. The trail system was about a mile wide and about 3 miles long. I think I rode just about every trail in less than 90 minutes. The riding itself was fun, and even had a few good technical ups/downs, but it got boring quickly.
Profile below of part of the ride. Looks quite hilly....until you check out the scale on the left.
I checked out the campsite anyway, just in case this one was nicer and/or had phone reception. Well, it was worse, no reception, and cost $6/night. That's not a lot of money, but why pay more for less? It was back to Corrall for a few more days.
Lark Canyon: avoid unless you're in the area already and have an hour to kill.
