New trailer at the rest area. I'm now on the prowl :)
With the trailer taken care of, the next item on the list was tires for the truck. The existing tires were getting a bit long in the tooth, and I wasn't relying on them pulling a travel trailer through the passes of Southern Oregon and NorCal. I'd pre-ordered a set into Oregon, so I needed to get there before 4:00 to have them installed today. If not, it was going to be a VERY short driving day. I was already pushing my luck with the 10am start.
Arrived at 3:30. They got the truck in quickly. Too quickly, as they finished the work before I could prepare and eat my late lunch. Those guys at Discount tire sure know how to get the job done. Hooked up the trailer and I was off again.
Discount Tire store. They gots lots o tires.
Nothing like a new set of boots.
For those of you not familiar with Oregon, they have zero sales tax. So, on a $600 set of tires (which are about $900 + HST in BC), you'd save about $56 in taxes over buying in Washington state. Now was a good time to stock up on some other essentials that I would need on the trip. Like beer. Oregon micro brews are fantastic, so this is a double win.
This drive was quickly becoming the WiFi trip, as I was stopping about every 3 hrs for gas & WiFi. Something had to be done.
Driving, driving, driving OUTLET MALLS!!! I know, not likely anything I'd buy, but had to take a look anyway. Checked out a few shops, but nothing of interest. Maybe to Sean though:
Back on the road, punched in "Walmart" on the GPS and found one just up the road. Time to get my T-mobile sim card and unlimited data plan. Walmart gives them away free (you can also get one via the website, but it had to be mailed out). "What do you mean you don't have them at this store". Arrrrrr! Oh well, on we go. Stopped a bit later for some gas (& WiFi of course) and just happened across a T-mobile store :) They had no idea about the unlimited data plan I was talking about. The ace sales guy was stunned when he looked at the website and found that a customer knew something he didn't. Don't worry dude, it may have even happened to me at one time. Though I can't recall. He couldn't give me the plan as it was web only, but gave me a free sim card to take away. A1 service.
Fired up the truck and took off down the road determined not to stop again until I was done for the day. Also determined to stop much earlier than last night. Setting up the new mobile phone service could wait until morning.
Found a nice rest stop just North of Eugene, OR around 8:30. Just over 200 miles travelled. Not very impressive, but it was a short day time wise, and I made quite a few stops. Made dinner in the trailer and threw back a couple of celebratory beers. It was a productive two days. I`ll make up the mileage tomorrow.
been to that icebreaker store several times, still not that good a deal. Look for Trader Joe's for groceries and cheap beer. I also got new tires from Discount Tire in Portland, great service
